Circularity and Recycling: the paradigm behind the new developments signed by YKK at Urban Matter (s) - FuoriSalone 2022
In collaboration with Materially, inside “Superstudio Più” spaces within the Urban Matter (s) area, YKK presents NATULON® and Acroplating® products.
Recognizing that fastening accessories are one of the biggest challenges in garment recycling, YKK recently launched a series of NATULON® recycled zips made with ECONYL® regenerated nylon. ECONYL® nylon, produced by Aquafil, is composed entirely of nylon waste collected from around the world, such as industrial plastic, fabric scraps, old carpets and fishing nets from the aquaculture sector. The material can be recycled endless times without loss of quality.
YKK understands circular fashion as a regenerative system in which garments are circulated as long as their maximum value is maintained and then safely returned to the biosphere. As a small part of the supply chain, YKK firmly believes in circularity as the key to building sustainability. YKK products are designed considering resource efficiency, non-toxicity, biodegradability and recyclability, favoring recyclable sources and ethical practices.
Alongside the NATULON® line with ECONYL® regenerated nylon, YKK presents AcroPlating®, the new metal plating technology that eliminates harmful chemicals, and drastically reduces energy and water consumption. As a result, AcroPlating® also reduces greenhouse gas emissions and sludge generation.
With a view to concrete support for circularity, all YKK products exhibited during the event will be donated to students of the Academy of Costume and Fashion in Milan for a project focused on sustainability and recycling of materials in the fashion sector. Also included in this project are the zips that make up the wall that separates the space dedicated to Circularity and YKK from the space reserved for other exhibitions. The zips of the partition wall are from the Natulon® family, but in recycled polyester material this time.
