YKK strengthens its commitment to the sustainability of the fashion supply chain with increasingly concrete actions. This time next to the National Chamber of Italian Fashion with the publication of “GOOD FACTORY PRACTICES – GUIDELINES ON THE USE OF CHEMICAL PRODUCTS IN FASHION PRODUCTION CHAINS”. A unique document of its kind, a service of the sector sponsored by the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
The publication of the Guidelines by CNMI is the result of the commitment of the CNMI Chemicals Commission, composed of the representatives of some of the most prestigious Italian brands, GIORGIO ARMANI, GUCCI, PRADA, VALENTINO and VERSACE, in collaboration with ASSOCIAZIONE TESSILE E SALUTE, SMI-SISTEMA MODA ITALIA, FEDERCHIMICA, UNIC-NATIONAL UNION OF TANNING INDUSTRY and QUANTIS ITALY and obviously thanks to the precious contribution of YKK ITALIA SPA for the drafting of the part relating to accessories.
These new Guidelines, which follow those already published in previous years on the use of chemicals in products and production processes, are intended to help companies implement criteria and controls that allow them to produce quality products,
compliant with the most advanced sustainability requirements.
In fact, to create an article in full respect of the environment and the community, it is not enough to know the chemical parameters to be respected on the article and those relating to the chemical mixtures that can be used but, in the production phases along the supply chain, it is necessary to act according to good
manufacturing practices that minimize environmental and social risks. For this reason, particular attention is paid to the packaging phase, both in its creative and technical variables that affect the consumption of energy and resources, and in the decisive function of giving rise to the finished product, helping to determine its quality and durability.
